Karnak-Tempel

The Karnak Temple is located in Karnak, a village approximately 2.5 kilometers north of Luxor and directly on the eastern bank of the Nile. It is the largest temple complex in Egypt, with the oldest visible remains dating back to the 12th dynasty under Sesostris I. The temple was continually expanded and renovated throughout the Roman era. Together with the Luxor Temple and the Theban Necropolis, the temple complex has been listed as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO since 1979. The temple complex consists of three walled-in areas, the District of Amun, the District of Month, and the District of Mut. In addition to these three major temple districts, there is also the Aton Temple, the Gem-pa-Aton, which was built by Akhenaten in Karnak in the sixth year of his reign. In ancient times, an avenue lined with 365 sphinxes connecting the Amun Temple with the Luxor Temple, which was about 2.5 kilometers away.
