Marsa Mubarak
& Marsa Shoona

turtles and dugong

The Program

Marsa Shoona

We depart in the morning on our boat from Port Ghalib harbor towards the south and reach our first anchorage after approximately 25 minutes. There, we find a colorful reef with various coral and fish species that we snorkel together in a group with a guide.

Marsa Mubarak

After a 15-minute ride to our second anchorage, we arrive at Marsa Mubarak, a protected bay with a seagrass meadow where we will have the chance to encounter a giant sea turtle and a dugong. We will be taken by a dinghy to the bay to observe this breathtaking animal up close.

Afterward, we will have freshly prepared lunch on the boat and then start our return journey. We will arrive at the harbor around 3:30 pm and safely take you back to your hotel.

Manatee/ Dugong (Dugong dugon)

The Dugong can reach up to four, but usually three meters in length and weigh anywhere from 230 to 900, but usually around 400 kg. The front flippers, which are 35 to 45 cm long, are used for propulsion by young Dugongs, whereas adult Dugongs primarily use these flippers for steering while relying on the tail fluke for propulsion. Dugongs can move at approximately 10 km/h, with double the speed in times of urgency. Dugongs are purely herbivorous, feeding on seagrass. They are believed to live for over 60 years.
